Weeks 4 & 5

With all of the traveling last week and being away from home on Friday I just realized I totally missed last weeks post! I wouldn't surprise me if I gained weight that week as I was still being lazy around the house and didn't do too great with keeping the soft drinks in moderation (way tempting at the scrapbooking day!) Anyway, so between last week and this week I'm still the same as I was at week 3. Kind of disappointing, but to be expected since I haven't done anything. I really need to start kicking into high gear or I'll never lose anything. Still at a 4 lb loss TOTAL.

WEEK 3

What a crazy past couple of weeks! The weather was getting to be pretty cold and we all got sick, then it got beautiful out......while we were still sick......now it's starting to get cold again.....now that we're slowly starting to feel better. Beacuse of us being sick I was only able to work out twice in the past two weeks. I tried to take advantage of the beautiful weather and we went for lots of walks for 2 days. I only LOST 1 lb this week. Making it a total of 4 lbs so far. 24 more to go by May!!
My biggest trials so far are the weather, finding time, and the water issue. I did really good with the water during the first week (and it showed). I was still even drinking 1/2 of a Gatorade a day to get my flavor fix. But then I started craving my Cherry Coke and Dr Pepper. I never really realized how "addicting" those drinks really are until now. Once I had one I was soooo craving one the next day and the next and so on. Most days I gave in to the temptation. I've got to stop that!!
Things I did during that first week that should become a daily routine:
  • Go on 1 mile walks with the girls twice a day (I can only do this when it's nice out though)
  • Mummy Tummy exercises
  • Dancing with Allie (or in other words chasing each other around the house)
  • 10-15 minutes on exercise bike
  • Jumping Jacks, Push Ups, Balance

As I start to feel less fatigued I'll add more exercises and increase time and lengths.

WEEK TWO

Well, this week wasn't so good. The girls and I have all been really sick. I didn't get any workouts in and didn't feel like cooking much so I didn't eat the best. It's just like the Biggest Loser in it's 2nd week! I didn't gain, I didn't lose. Hopefully we will all get to feeling better soon and next week will be better.

WEEK ONE

I must say that this week has been tough! We have too much Halloween candy sitting around to tempt me! Luckily, with Trunk or Treat, and the three of us munching on it it's almost gone now. When I go buy some for the trick or treaters I'll have to be sure and buy stuff I don't like! This is just a rough time of year to be starting this because there is so much to eat during the holidays. I'm going to keep on going though........I'm tired of looking like this.

My PURPOSE for making this blog is to keep a journal of my SUCCESS (there's my determination), Pitfalls and stand stills and also to hopefully inspire others to take on a healthier lifestyle as well. By posting my progress it means that someone might be reading this and it helps motivate me!!

My RULES:

  • Drink lots of water {this is one of the hardest things for me. I like flavor! Water doesn'thave flavor and is probably one of my least favorite things to drink. This is huge though, and if I drink more water I know this will be a great start to losing weight.}
  • Eat healthier {basically more grilled and baked things rather than fried......this should be easy to do}
  • Eat smaller portions {I don't snack like I should nor do I eat breakfast and so I'm starving when it comes time to eat and therefore I tend to eat more than I should. If I start eating breakfast and 2 small, healthy snacks this should be doable.}
  • Eat breakfast
  • Eat healthy snacks
  • Excercise {I know I'll have to start slow at first since I haven't had any real form of excercise in a LONG time. We don't have a gym within a 5 minute JOG anymore...it's at 20 minute drive. Plus, I now have 2 kids to take care of and a husband who is super busy with school. I'll probably have to excercise at home (hopefully purchase a treadmill with the cold weather hitting us now) until things lighten up with him and Avery is on more of a routine.}
  • I'm not going to deprive myself from sweet treats that I love. The key is moderation.....if I do deprive myself I will eventually give up and induldge ( I know this from experience!)

Now for this weeks RESULTS: Despite all of my temptations, colder weather, and lack of sleep...............I LOST 5 lbs this week!!!!! I am so happy with that, especially since I didn't even try as hard as I should have.

The Start of a New ME

So, after 2 pregnancies I've gained quite a bit of weight and have a huge diastasis. What is a diastasis, you might ask? *Diastasis is a separation of the two halves of the rectus abdominis muscle in the middle of our belly that sometimes occurs during pregnancy. You can check for it by lying on your back with your knees bent. Place your fingertips 1 to 2 inches below your bellybutton, fingers pointing toward your feet. Lift your head as high as you can and see if you feel a ridge protruding from the midline of your abdomen - that's diastasis.* Mine is 4 finger widths apart.....probably the worst that it can be......and makes me look like I am 5 months pregnant with my big bulge of organs protruding out! There are some exercises that I can do, which will hopefully get my abdominal muscles back together. This won't happen overnight though.....most likely it will be at least a year.
I'm going to start using this to mark my ups, downs, whatever kind of progress I might be making. I'll try to do it every Friday to keep a weekly record. My GOAL is to lose 35 pounds by MAY (it would obviously be great if I can do that even quicker) and then to my ideal weight by the end of the summer next year. I think this is very doable if I keep my mind set on my goal and to be a healthier person. I know if I can do this that I will be happier, more myself, and be a better mother and wife. I can't wait to start shedding these pounds!!!!
